Royal Wedding: Kate Middleton wears Cartier 'halo' tiara - Something Borrowed

Princess Catherine Kate Middleton wears royal wedding Cartier 'halo' tiara Something Borrowed - The lovely Kate Middleton chose to wear the Cartier "halo" tiara to accompany her classic Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown.

The tiara was made in 1936 and purchased by the Duke of York (later King George VI) for his wife Elizabeth the Queen mother and then given to Princess Elizabeth on her 18th birthday.

According to Vanity Fair it is unclear, whether the tiara is just a loaner or if it was a gift from the Queen.

In 1981 the Queen gave Princes Diana - Prince Williams mom, the Cambridge Lovers’ Knot Tiara as a wedding gift. Princes Diana wore a Spencer-family tiara on her wedding day.

The beautiful earrings Kate wore were a present from her parents. They are by Robinson Pelham and were custom designed to match the beautiful tiara.

Inspiration for their design came from the Middleton family's new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves. Pelham also designed the earrings worn by Kate's maid of honor Pippa Middleton, her younger sister.

Kate Middleton will be known as the Duchess of Cambridge.
